Rest in Peace, Former The Cure and Iggy Pop Drummer Andy Anderson: 1961 – 2019

Tuesday afternoon, it was announced that Andy Anderson, onetime drummer for the Cure, had passed away at the age of 68 from terminal cancer. Anderson was the band’s drummer from 1983 to 1984, playing on the album The Top and on live tours before being replaced by Boris Williams.

Lol Tolhurst, the Cure’s founding drummer, remembered Anderson in a post on social media:

Earlier this month, Anderson had posted on his Facebook page about his illness, explaining that he’d fully come to terms with his situation:

In addition to his stint with the Cure, Anderson was most known for his drumming work for Iggy Pop and guitarist Steve Hillage.

With the Cure, Anderson was behind the kit for the song “The Love Cats,” a standalone 1983 single which became the band’s first Top 10 hit in the United Kingdom.

May Andy Anderson rest in peace.
