Perhaps inconceivably, things are going quite well for the Smashing Pumpkins these days. Billy Corgan and original members James Iha and Jimmy Chamberlin buried the hatchet and got back together in recent months for the Shiny and Oh So Bright reunion tour (minus bassist D’Arcy Wretzky), treating fans to marathon, three-plus hour concerts featuring nearly every hit and tons of deep cuts and covers.
They also released a new song, “Solara,” which was the first bit of new material from the core members in 18 years. It was part of a larger project, of course, and on Nov. 26 the band will release Shiny and Oh So Bright, Vol. 1/LP: No Past. No Future. No Sun., a new album of material that serves as the first from this version of the band’s lineup since 2000’s Machina/The Machines of God.
Featuring eight songs, the new project was recorded in Los Angeles and produced by Rick Rubin — here’s another new track, “Silvery Sometimes (Ghosts),” as a preview:
The track listing for the new album:
1. “Knights of Malta”
2. “Silvery Sometimes (Ghosts)”
6. “Marchin’ On”
7. “With Sympathy”
8. “Seek And You Shall Destroy”
