Last month, System of a Down guitarist/vocalist Daron Malakian premiered a new Scars on Broadway song titled “Lives” — and its frenetic energy and charged lyrics were a welcomed sound to those pining for more music from System, which remains elusive.
On July 20, though, Malakian will release a new album, Dictator, under the project name of Daron Malakian and Scars on Broadway (the second LP from Malakian under this name, following 2008’s debut). On Friday, the album’s title track was premiered, and it’s just as frantic, politically-motivated and defiant as much of SOAD’s previous material:
The album artwork seen in the video above was designed by Malakian’s father:
“I told my Dad that the album was going to be titled Dictator,” recalls Daron. “I didn’t go into any other details. I went to my parents’ house a week later and he already had the album cover done.”
Stay tuned for more from this new record.
