From your nightmares to your television: Alice Cooper has reportedly been cast as King Herod in an upcoming NBC production of Jesus Christ Superstar Live!, scheduled to air on Easter Sunday, April 1, 2018.
The news comes via the Hollywood Reporter. Five-time Tony Award nominee David Leveaux is set to direct the sure-to-be lavish production.
A statement from NBC Entertainment figure Robert Greenblatt:
“Alice Cooper, whose theatricality is the stuff of legend, is the perfect rock star to play Herod in our live production. Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice wrote a showstopping musical number for Herod, and we all look forward to the ‘King of Shock Rock’ taking on the King of Judea. As the casting for Superstar ramps up, we can feel the excitement building for this brand new concert experience of what has long been considered the original rock musical.”

This certainly sounds like an intriguing development for Cooper, who just recently appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live’s Halloween special hosted by Dave Grohl and has been touring heavily in support of his new album Paranormal, which was released in July.
