On Friday night, Bruce Springsteen and the E. Street Band took the stage at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn swathed in purple light — and chose to open their The River tour stop with a touching cover of Prince‘s Purple Rain.
It was a great tribute to Prince the day after news of his passing hit the world. Watch the performance below:
Springsteen’s live concert website is currently offering a free download of the Purple Rain cover — click here for details and further information about his live concert database.
The Boss’ cover of Purple Rain came on the heels of Pearl Jam‘s poignant tribute in South Carolina on Thursday, one that included a heartfelt speech from Eddie Vedder. Additionally, Prince’s headlining set from Coachella 2008 was recently unearthed and put on the Internet for listening, too.
Needless to say, Prince’s passing left a void in the music world…
